MPEG

MPEG Type: The options available in the MPEG Type drop-down list enable selection of MPEG presets for VCD, SVCD, and DVD output (both NTSC and PAL video standard options) or manual MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 configuration.

If a VCD, SVCD, or DVD preset is selected, the bitrate, sample rate, frame rate, and channel options are not applicable since the output will be configured  to conform to the specifications of the desired output. Otherwise, all options are available for manual customization.

Video Bitrate: The video bitrate setting defines the video quality of the MPEG output.  A higher bitrate setting produces better quality, while at the same time resulting in a larger file size. On the other hand, a lower bitrate produces a smaller file size, while the quality is lessened. MPEG bitrate is non-linear, meaning that at a certain point, increasing the bitrate will not improve the output quality for a given resolution.

Frame Rate: This drop-down list offers frame rate options that are compatible for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 output. The values are expressed in frames per second (FPS).

Audio Bitrate: The audio bitrate setting defines the audio quality of the MPEG output. A higher bitrate setting produces better quality, while at the same time resulting in a larger file size. On the other hand, a lower bitrate produces a smaller file size, while the quality is lessened.

Audio Sample Rate: The audio sample rate (frequency) defines the number of samples per second to be used in the audio content of the MPEG output. The standard is 44,100 Hz for VCD and SVCD quality, while 48,000 Hz is the standard for DVD quality. Content from miniDV digital video camcorders and high-quality wireless microphone transmissions typically uses 32,000 Hz.

Audio Channels: Enable you to select between stereo and mono audio content for the MPEG output.
